We believe in recycling.
We strive to be good stewards of the environment. There are boxes in the hallway above the coat rack for collection of used batteries, eyeglasses, hotel toiletries for Janet Wattles, Campbell's soup labels & Boxtops for Education, and even cell phones. These will be taken to centers for proper reuse and/or redistribution to schools and nonprofits who will put the items to good use. Recycling receptacles for aluminum cans and plastic bottles are located in the kitchen and throughout the building. Used bulletins and office papers are also collected and properly recycled. Our resident Rockford Clean & Beautiful representative, Nancy Houtz, will happily answer questions about ways to keep reusable items out of our landfills.

UCC Equal Exchange Coffee Project
Fairly traded coffee, tea, and cocoa is available for sale on Sunday and from the church office during the week. This is the coffee that we serve during our fellowship time after the worship service.
Case-quantity orders of fairly traded products are offered for gift-giving during Advent. Contact the church office if you would like information on selection and current prices.
Through the UCC COFFEE PROJECT, small-scale farmers in Latin America, Africa, Asia and the United States earn a fair price for their products, gaining access to affordable credit, improved health care, and education as they build a better future for themselves and their families. Equal Exchange [a Fair Trade organization] makes a contribution to the UCC “Small Farmer Fund” in support of small farmers in our global community. 100% of Equal Exchange’s coffee, tea and chocolate products are fairly traded.

N.I.P.H.Y. is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless middle-school and high-school youth in the Rockford area who need a safe haven so they can stay in school and complete their education. Spring Creek United Church of Christ members spearheaded NIPHY's formation and early funding in 2011, and several continue to serve on the board of directors. Establishing an after-school drop-in center, nutritious meal programs, tutoring, and eventually, a residential facility are among the long-range goals.
